Broken Social Scene is pretty much the Kevin Bacon of Canadian Indie Rock.

We’ve put together an infographic to show the creative span of supergroup Broken Social Scene! The band has had more than 20 members who have formed their own bands, and in some cases those bands have featured members of other notable acts.

To emphasize the collective nature of the scene, we’ve also included several members who simply collaborated on recordings. For instance, KC Accidental was Kevin Drew and Charles Spearin’s band, but their recordings feature at least seven other BSS members.

Oh, and if you’re curious, BSS is only two degrees removed from Kevin Bacon.

You can’t determine the ethos of an entire age by looking at a sub-sub-sub-sub-culture. Rather, there are far more prominent indicators like, for example, a society’s cultural output. Take that into account, and a different picture emerges. The success of filmmakers like Judd Aptatow, the increasing popularity of ultra-sincere indie artists from Arcade Fire to Vampire Weekend, and the proliferation of wholesome, though not traditional, family-centered television shows like Modern Family point to a rise in what some call the “New Sincerity.”
